Welcome to this course! I'd like to welcome you face to face. :)
In this lesson, I give a quick course overview and discuss email marketing in general.
Check out website traffic guru Corbett Barr's post called Why I Switched from MailChimp to Aweber explaining why he switched from MailChimp to Aweber. He also has a ton of useful info on his site pertaining to getting more traffic to your website.
Also, throughout this course you will be able to download completely free, info-packed email marketing PDF guides for your reference. Initially, I was going to create my own PDF giveaway for this course (and in time I still might), but when I stumbled on Aweber's Email Marketing PDF library, I couldn't believe how much time, effort, and research they had put into it. Not only had they done the work for me (sweet!), but they encourage people to give them away for free.
And the best part is that the PDF guides are still packed with extremely useful content and principles that you can apply to any email marketing service, whether you decided to use Aweber's email marketing service or not.
So download them, and enjoy!
In this lesson, I wanted to share an interesting educational article that I found addressing an interesting question: "What if Facebook were to implode like Yahoo?" How would you communicate with your raving fans then? That's why having your own email list is so important. It's your most important asset.
In this lesson, I show you how to sign up for Aweber. We then get familiar with your dashboard and poke around a bit. Head over to Aweber to get started by clicking here. Also, it doesn't matter which "sign up for a $1" button you use on their home page. They all do the same thing.
As a side note, I have found Aweber so useful for growing my business that I fully believe in it, and offer it as an affiliate. Therefore, if you click on any of my affiliate links throughout this course, I can potentially earn a small commission, and it is at absolutely no additional cost to you.
So if you choose to use one of my affiliate links, thank you so much! I definitely appreciate it!
In this lesson, I walk you through the steps of setting up your first list on Aweber.
For your reference, here is a link to more information on the CAN-SPAM Act, a law that establishes the rules you have to follow for commercial email. It also includes penalties for violating the rules, so read it carefully.
Also, check out Pat Flynn's article on Email List Strategies when you get a chance. He has tons of crazy good information on how to build up your email list in an honest, ethical, and downright friendly way. His site in general is loaded with useful information that any business can use (especially those interested in passive income).
In this lesson, we'll create the welcome message your subscribers get after they receive the opt-in message.
In this lesson, you will create your form in Aweber, and then learn how to install it to your Wordpress site. However, even if you use another content management system (CMS) or service for your website, the principles are basically the same: copy the code, and paste it into your HTML editor.
If you are migrating from a another email marketing service or have been collecting email addresses offline, it's vital that you import your existing list into Aweber so that no information is lost. In this lesson, I show you how to do just that.
In this case study, we study the effect your words can have on potential subscribers. Specifically, the words you use on the button of your web form can turn a person off, or encourage them to subscribe. Finding the button phrase that works for your particular business or niche can potentially help you increase your subscribers.
In this lesson, we set up a broadcast email message. Broadcast messages are useful if you need to send out a notification to your subscribers at one time. They are different from auto-responders (the follow up series) in that the message only goes out one time.
In this lesson, we configure a blog broadcast. Aweber essentially takes the latest blog post that you've written and sends it out to your subscribers. This is useful for a newsletter, for example.
In this case study, we explore which word is more effective on sign up buttons: "FREE" or "TRY". Then, we review another case study that shows how important it is to know what your audience wants.
This Email Message Checklist PDF will help you make sure fewer mistakes slip through the cracks. It includes links within the document for any concepts that require further explanation.

Integrating your Aweber form onto your Facebook Business Page can increase your sign ups. In this lesson, I show you how to integrate the two services for a more effective email marketing strategy.
In this lesson, I show you how to integrate Aweber with Paypal so that every time someone purchases a product you are offering and pays using Paypal, their name is automatically added to your Aweber list so that you can easily communicate with them in the future.
In this study, we explore the effect your vocabulary can have on your sign-ups. We also take a look at how the words you choose to use when directing your audience to take action can potentially affect your campaign.
In this video, I'll announce the next portion of the course, which will cover the strategic portion of your email marketing plan.
In this lecture, we discuss email marketing strategies that work. We also discuss practices that can hurt your email marketing campaign. In a nutshell:
1. Remember what your subscribers signed up for.
2. Your Call to Action should take them to the correct landing page.
3. Send your autoresponders with the correct frequency. ( see the Kissmetrics article http://blog.kissmetrics.com/email-clickthrough-rates-skyrocket/. Partway through the article, they discuss email frequency.)
And here are general email marketing no-no's:
1. DON'T use boring headlines.
2. DON'T be impersonal in your emails, such as addressing them as "customer". Huge turnoff.
3. You don't generally have to send the same messages to everyone on your list.
