At iMarket XL we want to give you all of the tools you need to become the best marketer you can. And of course, List Building is an essential part of that process. My name is Max Stryker and I'm the Co-Founder of iMarket XL. Part of my experience as a product and content developer includes the position of Educational Content Developer at inInbox, an Email Service Provider (ESP) located in the Netherlands.
Overtime I've learnt a lot about the right practices to build an email list and I was given the chance the learn how email marketing works from the inside of an actual Email Service Provider.
If you're taking an online course about list building, then you might already know the real power behind it. List building can do wonders for your business and on this lecture we will cover just some of the reasons why you should be building your own list TODAY.
The strongest force behind email marketing lies in it's name. MARKETING.
Email Marketing is simply marketing done through email. And, in order for you to perform a flawless marketing campaign you need to dig a little bit into Niche Marketing. When we speak about niches, we tend to identify a specific group of people with common NEEDS, GOALS and MOTIVATIONS.
So, if you are able to identify a niche and what actually drives them, you won't have any obstacles when it comes to crafting email marketing campaigns, cause the group of people reading them will identify with their graphics, their message and the product/service being sold.
On this video we will take a closer look into what email marketing campaigns actually are. There's no theory on this video, only visual examples of campaigns created having an audience (niche market) in sight.
On this one-page PDF you will get to see some of the email marketing campaigns mentioned on the previous lecture and their corresponding niche markets below. This example is set to help you recognize niche markets in emails so that you can do the same in your own campaigns.
Email Marketing: The Driving Force Behind Each Email
The prime source of interaction between email marketers and subscribers is one: the inbox.
But, do we really pay attention to everything that's flowing right into our own inbox each day?
Email Marketing is simple... But only if you're able to look at it by analyzing the separate elements that play a fundamental role in the process of building your list. In this lecture we identify each of the important players, assigning which part they play and how they work together as a whole.

An Email Service Provider [ESP] or Autorresponder account is the first thing you need to start creating your lists. On this video we will look over all the different emails service providers out there and which one you should use.
On this video I'll show you how to export and import your lists into a new ESP. This is the same method we use for creating new lists, will come in handy in the following lectures.
This is the first thing you need to do if you want to get started collecting email addresses and sending out emails. We chose Mailchimp cause they have a unique Forever Free plan an an excellent support panel.
We've all heard the terms, but, which are the main difference between a LANDING page and a SQUEEZE PAGE?
Opt-in Boxes are signup forms that are integrated into the pages of a site. There can be located on the sidebar, below or above the content of a pot or on the top, right below or replacing the header. There are a lot of alternatives you can use to integrate them with your site (specially if you use Wordpress) and here we will cover the most effective ones.
There are many many case studies throwing out the same results. Popups work. Period. The science behind it is that, if it well does annoy a few people, it coverts higher than static signup boxes. Why? Because the visitor is surprised with them and they present the visitor a choice. Do I sign up or not. the same studies show that the visitors that sign up are higher than the ones who leave the site because of them.
You don't have to be a coder or a web designer to create your landing or squeeze pages. On this video I'll show you how to create excellent pages with a simple Drag N' Drop editor, Instapage.
Whenever you want something, you need to give out something in return. Same goes with email marketing. If you want people's email address, you need to give them something they're interested in before they signup so they are motivated enough to give you their email addresses. This incentive is what I call the bait.
Bait 2.0: Viral Giveaways
Nathan Barry's website is a remarkable example of email marketing done right. Not only his site offers a really smart visitor filtering solution, but the user experience is completely different depending on the interests of the people who arrive.
Phase 1 is over. We learnt everything we required to be able to go to phase 2 and now COLLECT email addresses. What you need to know now is that not everyone is a fit for the list of email addresses that you are building. You need people that will respond to the information and promotions that you will be sending. So, on this phase we will make sure to cover the best traffic sources and how to create and publish content so that you attract only the kind of susbribers you want to have in your list.
Content marketing is a really excellent way to get FREE and TARGETED traffic back the place where you published your signup forms in (whether it's your blog or a standalone landing/squeeze page). Whenever people are searching for something, they are looking for information to solve their problems, and that's where you come in. Content marketing refers about creating content that will interest someone within your selected niche (target audience). Now, if we're strategical, we don't want to publish everything on one site, we won't want to give out all of what we've got at once (and for free), so what we do is that after we get the visitor interested, we send them, back though a link, to a page in which we can keep communicating with them (so that they subscribe). After all, visitors find our content, and if they do, it's really likely they will be interested in what we have to say.
On this video we will also cover the one of the main ways to get targeted traffic, artickles.
Interactive articles are basically articles in which we can include media such as, pictures, galleries, videos, lists, ads, and other elements to enrich the content and ignite action. We will take a look at one of the main article 2.0 website, Hubpages, and see the advantages behind creating this type of content.
Not all content needs to be read. Videos are an excellent way to drive traffic to your forms for 2 reasons. First, they are targeted, and second, they tend to go viral.
There's also a really interesting content marketing platform called Slideshare, a slide sharing service. In Slideshare, people can browse through the slides at they're on pace and they allow you to place links on them.
So, if you're already building your list, take advantage of the various sites out there you can use to get visitors, visitors you can turn into subscribers.
Where does your niche hang out? That's easy, forums. People with common interests tend to group in places where they can share ideas, experiences and help each other out when they have questions. There are forums for every niche and they present us a great opportunity to get closer to them, turn them into subscribers or maybe even find out more about who they are and what they NEED.
Just for you to stay on top of the wave, I included the most popular Question and Answer sites you can browse around in search of relevant questions to establish yourself as an authority and drive people to your forms.
Knowing the reasons WHY you are building an email list is extremely important if you want to to this more seriously. Managing a list takes time and patience, that is the only way that you can build a lasting relationship with your subscribers.
Perhaps the single most relevant element of all email communications is this one, the headline. On this video I'll show you how to make your headlines stand out and how to maximize their open rates.

As your list starts growing, it goes through 3 main phases, cold, warm and hot. Each phase refers to a stage in which you list is or isn't ready to be offered a paid product or service. On this video I'm going to help you find out and identify each one of these stages and how to move quickly from one to the other.
